The new Dual Link DVI over Cat-6 Extender and DVI RS-232 over Fiber Extender devices give integrators options for lengthening DVI-based installs.

Gefen has been at the forefront of providing solutions for easing the pain of long cable connections and switching between signals. The company has introduced a couple of extenders to help integrators with DVI-based installs.

Because source devices are rarely right next to displays or other end points, integrators must rest assured they have reliable means for extending connections. Gefen has addressed DVI runs with its Dual Link DVI over Cat-6 Extender and DVI RS-232 over Fiber Extender devices.

The rackmount sender/receiver DVI over Cat-6 solution extends high resolutions of dual-link DVI (up to 3840x2400) using two Cat-6 cables, effective at distances up to 200 feet, says Gefen. Plug-and-play installation ensures delivery of other features such as RS-232 control and built-in EDID management. The ultra-long DVI RS-232 over Fiber extender uses single-strand fiber to send both signals up to 1,640 feet. Both solutions include locking connectors for power supplies.

Suitable for A/V and automation installations in which cable runs are long. Gefen notes the DVI RS-232 extender is also ideal for applications where EMI (electromagnetic interference) is an issue.
